According to the myth, Amun originally is the member of "Ogdoad", or the "group of eight". In this creation myth of Hemopolis, there were four groups of creative Gods: Nun and Naunet(Water);Heh and Hauhet(Infinity);Kek and Kauket( Darkness); Amun and Amaunet( Hiddenness).
Amun appears as a Theban local God with his consort Goddess Amaunet. At the time of the 11th Dynasty, four Pharaohs took the name of Amun. Within a century and half Amungradually replaced the old Theban God Montu as the dominant God. Untill the time of New Kingdom, he was promoted to a position of supereme God of Egyptian pantheon. In Thebes, he was associated with a new systerm: his wife Mut and his son Khonsu. In ancient Egypt, people called him asha renu which meanings that Amun rich in names.
Consealed God:
In Egyptian myth, Amun stood for the feature of Hiddenness. Put it in this way, sometimes, Aum was decribed as "mysterious one" or "invisible", suggesting that his original nature would be the invisible power of wind.
Creator God :
As I said above, Amun in the myth of Hemopolis was part of the creative Gods. So, from some stands, he can be treated as a creative God.
Solar God:
In the Book of the Dead, Amun is called" eldest of the gods of the eastern sky", an epithet reflecting the both his primeval character and solar-associated nature. In a hymn to Amun said that he raises as Horakhty, fusing the hidden one with the sun.
Fertility God:
Amun sometimes was associated was the fertility God Min, so he was also called Amun-Min.
Warrior God:
It seems likely that the features of Montu were utilised by Amun. The Theban ruler of the 13th Dynasty made great effort against the Hyksos. And it was Amun who received victories and praise when finally the Hyksos was driven away form the Egyptian land.
King of the Gods:
Pyramids Texts 1540 states that" you have come, O King, as the son of Geb upon the throne of Amun." And the first epithet of "King of the Gods" appears on the 12th Dynasty.
Universal Gods:
Amun is a great God who exists in all thing, unlike other Gods who just simplely stand for one aspect of universal life, Amun extremely can be seen as the One who reflect every explanation of the university.
